Hand built, tactile ceramic

ANNA YOUNIE CERAMICS

Ranging from table top vessels to floor based pieces, the detail in my work aims to reflect the eroded textures of the dramatic landscapes belonging to the Orkney Islands. Hand built using black stoneware clay, these tactile pieces vary in both size and surface detail throughout the range.

ARTIST BIO

Originally from Orkney, I initially discovered my interest in ceramics whilst studying at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. Having never worked with clay before, I soon realised that this was the media I wanted to work with and specialise in throughout my fourth year and hereafter.

Moving away from home to be able to study was when I realised that I never fully appreciated the vast wealth of inspiration that Orkney has to offer. It was then that I knew I wanted to try and capture its intricate and sometimes overlooked detail in my ceramic pieces.

Ceramics

Being able to take part in the Erasmus programme that Gray’s runs, I was able to spend the second semester of my third year studying abroad. This allowed me to work under more of a fine art approach to ceramics as opposed to the design driven course at Gray’s I was used to and which also led me to discover a passion for producing large scale pieces.
